WELL ON THE WAY!

I leave in 4 days days to cycle 373km round Cuba in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust. I've put in approx. 1250 miles of training since July so am as fit as I can be!
So far I've raised £4,160 for the Anthony Nolan Trust - so many thanks for your help and support in helping this wonderful organisation save lives.
A massive thanks to all of you!!!
And for those who haven't donated yet, it's not too late- see my link

The next blog will be when I return, with some wonderful experiences and photos to share!

IN WHICH I MAKE THE HUGE MISTAKE OF USING A MOUNTAIN BIKE FOR THE ROAD!

I trotted off to take part in another Evans Ride It! event this weekend; Nottingham this time.
Andrew very kindly lent me his mountain bike as I entered the events on both days.  My big mistake was to think I would save myself the hassle of lugging two bikes around and use one for both events.
The Saturday was the Mountain Bike section and I have now (35 uncomfortable miles later!) discovered that I don't like Mountain biking much.  However I stuck it out, finished the course and, amazingly enough, was not the slowest person on my route.

The highlight of the weekend was meeting up with a good friend Therese again- we met in Nottingham for a drink and a meal and then caught trains back to where we'd come from; me back to Mansfield and Therese back to Wakefield. Lots to catch up on and it was lovely!
I spent the night at a great B & B (http://www.stayatbridleways.co.uk/)- stay there if you're ever in Mansfield.
Sunday is where the BIG MISTAKE comes in!  The guy at the start obviously thought I was completely potty planning on doing the long route of 65 miles on a mountain bike and, having woefully failed to keep up with Gill, Mike and Kevin (fellow Cubarites) I had to agree and changed to the medium route of 50 miles (50 miles being "medium" is obviously someone's idea of a joke but that's another story!)
Well, dear reader, I finished but it took me 5 1/2 hours and everyone, and I mean every single person on that ride, overtook me!  I've come last on the results that Evans post but hey I finished.
After which I had a huge bowl of pasta, drove home and collapsed in a heap.

The scenery was lovely though, and I had more time to enjoy it than most....!
